Children from low-income families in Samarkand will have the opportunity to study in the Republic of Korea

On June 12th, test assessments were conducted at SIUT for talented students from low-income families. These evaluations are part of the State Program on Poverty Reduction, enacted by Presidential Decree No. PD-158 “On the Strategy `Uzbekistan-2030`” from September 11, 2023. One of the key focuses of this strategy is to halve the poverty rate by 2026 through training youth in high-demand professions.

To implement this strategy, many international schools have provided opportunities for Uzbek middle and high school students to study abroad. One such school is the private Gimcheon High School, founded in 1931 in the Republic of Korea. The school has produced generations of competent specialists with outstanding achievements in various sectors of society, both in South Korea and worldwide.

Gimcheon High School is launching a humanitarian project to provide Uzbek youth, whose potential is limited by poverty, the opportunity to study in the Republic of Korea on full scholarships. SIUT was one of the first initiators of this social project in the Samarkand region, creating favorable conditions for underprivileged youth to receive these grants. On May 13, 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Gimcheon High School and SIUT, paving the way for the implementation of this social project within the framework of the “New Uzbekistan Development Strategy for 2022-2026”.

The test assessments, conducted using the methodology of Professor B.R. Kodirov from the Psychology Department at the Moscow State University branch in Tashkent, were closely overseen by SIUT’s foreign professors. After the evaluations at SIUT, 5 students with the best results will be selected. Thanks to a special grant from the Chairman of the SIUT Board of Trustees, B.Sh. Fazilov, they will receive free six-month preparatory courses in the Korean and English languages, as well as Mathematics, at Samarkand International University of Technology, specifically at the KITC. Upon completing the preparatory courses, SIUT will recommend the students to the Gimcheon High School. They will receive full scholarships from the high school, including airline tickets, tuition, and accommodation in the Republic of Korea.
